Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy for Clayton Families

Kids Connect Therapy is a short drive east of Clayton, at Unit 4, 12 Compark Circuit, Mulgrave. We see a lot of Clayton families, and many of them arrive at the same point in the journey: holding a new diagnosis and a referral letter, and not entirely sure what happens next.

After the appointment at the hospital

Clayton is home to Monash Medical Centre and Monash Children's Hospital, and a large number of families across Melbourne's south-east receive a paediatric assessment, a developmental review or a diagnosis there.

What often follows is a gap. You have a report, a diagnosis, possibly a recommendation for "speech and OT", and no clear next step. Public waiting lists are long. The NDIS process is unfamiliar. And in the meantime your child is not getting support.

We can usually help you work out the next step in a single phone call, even before you become a client:

  • What the report actually means in practical terms, and which recommendations are urgent versus long-term
  • Which funding pathway applies — NDIS, Medicare M10, a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, or from October 2026, Thriving Kids
  • Whether you need to wait. Many families start privately while an NDIS application is in progress, which is usually the most useful thing to do with the waiting period.
  • Whether we're the right service. If your child needs paediatric physiotherapy, psychology or something else we don't offer, we'll say so and point you elsewhere.

Call (03) 9807 1114. There's no charge for a conversation about where to start.

What we help with

Autism and neurodevelopmental differences · developmental delay · speech and language difficulties · sensory processing · motor skills and coordination · regulation · school readiness · literacy · feeding and daily living skills.

We work with your medical team

We write reports for paediatricians, GPs and specialists, and we're happy to contribute to NDIS applications, school funding applications and Medicare treatment and management plans. If your child is under the care of a team at Monash Children's, we'll work alongside them rather than in parallel.

Interpreters and advocates

Clayton is one of the most culturally diverse suburbs in Melbourne. Interpreters are welcome at every appointment, at no cost to you, and we actively encourage you to bring an advocate if that makes things easier. Tell us what you need when you book. Contact us →

Questions from Clayton families

We've just had a diagnosis and been told to get speech and OT. Where do we start?
Call us. We'll talk through the report, explain the funding options, and tell you honestly whether we can help and how soon.

We're waiting on an NDIS decision. Should we wait to start therapy?
Usually not. Starting privately while an application is in progress means your child isn't losing months, and the therapy reports often strengthen the application.

Do you take referrals directly from paediatricians?
Yes. Ask your paediatrician to send the referral to info@kidsconnecttherapy.com.au, or bring it with you.
