Other Programs

We also offer a range of more structured therapeutic programs, including:

Sensory Integration
Sensory Integration (SI) is a framework that recognises the importance of providing sensory specific opportunities according to children’s developmental needs. SI theory was originally formulated by Dr Jean Ayers.
SI treatment principles assist children in their ability to become and remain engaged with both their environment and others, to help them begin to make more complex adaptations within their world. Changes in the child’s profile may look like improved fine or gross motor co-ordination, improved social engagement and ability to master higher functional developmental levels, more complex play skills, improved concentration and/or improved endurance at an activity. More detailed research information can be found at http://www.spdfoundation.net/

Therapeutic Listening
Therapeutic Listening is an additional treatment modality that can be utilised within a child’s treatment approach to support their ability to learn and attend.

Lindamood Bell Learning Processes
Several of our speech pathologists have trained in Lindamood Bell Learning Processes research-based and validated Seeing Stars®, Visualizing and Verbalizing® and Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS™) programs.

Lindamood-Bell® programs help improve language processing—the foundation of all communication and learning. The intensive, one-to-one, process-based instruction, based on the individual’s learning needs, strengthens the sensory-cognitive functions needed for reading and comprehension, and has been proven successful for individuals with learning challenges, including dyslexia, hyperlexia, ADHD, and ASD.

Lindamood-Bell instructional programs include the following:

Seeing Stars®—This program, for phonemic awareness, reading, and spelling, develops symbol imagery—the ability to visualise sounds and letters in words for both phonological and orthographic processing.

Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking—This program develops concept imagery for both oral and written language.

Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS™)—This program develops phonemic awareness. Students learn to recognise how their mouths produce the sounds of language. This kinesthetic feedback enables reading, spelling, and speech.
